It was in the mid 1980s when I went there for the first time. It is located on a quiet road of Pali Hill, Bandra- the queen of suburbs in Mumbai. My mission was to get a decent haircut and a relaxing facial massage. I had taken this trip as a result of a recommendation from a lady, who got very refreshing facials at that place. It is a unisex salon- both men and women could obtain services yet during that time of the day only ladies were visible and for a moment I suspected if my friend had played a prank with me. But on a second thought I decided to push the glass door and enter.

The place was definition of efficiency and charm. It was well decorated and lighted. The ladies present were chatting with the receptionist as if they had known each other for ages. Later, after the haircut, while waiting for the facial, I came to know it was their first visit too. I was directed to the salon chair and the haircut was satisfactory. I thought for the first time in my life I got a satisfactory first time cut from a barber. He had taken pains to study my skull and did the needful.

As I sat for the second time on the waiting chairs, I began to see the reason for the magic. The owner herself was not at the reception. The lady at reception was a young charming person. I started noticing the environment; the magazines and newspapers were fresh. The flowers were fresh. Air-conditioning was adequate. Once again I saw a person in conversation with the lady at reception. They were talking as if they knew each other for a long time. Only after a few minutes I realized he was another first timer like me. The lady had the knack of making every one comfortable and would freely converse. As she was busy talking to the person next to me I took a hard look in her direction and I saw a poster behind her chair. It simply said," Don't be afraid to ask your dumb questions!" The poster was prompting the dialogue, which was wonderfully carried on by the lady at the reception. For next several years that I lived in Mumbai, I was their client. The place was always full doing roaring business. I am sure till this day they would be doing great business.
